The Courtyard House for a Florist.
This is a remodelling of a partially stone built single storey bungalow to create a protected internal courtyard (4m x 6m).
The property is set within extensive and abundant gardens with fruit trees and flower beds.
The design concept is to encourage the garden to “drift through” the new accommodation and “pull” the long garden right into the heart of the house, the internal courtyard.
To achieve this, the new wing (10m x 6m) houses an open-plan kitchen/ living and dining space with two-directional views – one towards the garden and the other, towards the new courtyard. This arrangement offers infinite flexibility to configure the new space for different uses by how the 2 sets of sliding doors are opened or closed, for different occasions, adding tremendous value.
The new wing, which has a dual-pitched roof to reflect the existing bungalow, is connected to the original bungalow via a new protected entrance link hallway. The new entrance door and windows are arranged on an axis to frame specific floral arrangements and accentuate the forthcoming courtyard planting scheme.
This project was delivered with a full architect’s service from feasibility to practical completion. Full planning and building regulation permissions were applied and approved including SAP calculations (co-ordination) and site visits.
